It will survive as long as you keep it well watered, and if there is any way you can keep the sun of of it in this extreme heat wave, maybe put a lawn chair tipped with the back over the plant. I have several newer plants planted in mostly shade, but a few hours of that hot afternoon sun and, they have leaves that have burned on the ends also. The flowers have also burned to a crisp, I recently bought a Mystical Emerald a gorgeous cream flower, now it looks like it was dipped in a frialator!! I just planted 8 last weekend.... JUST before we started a week of 90 degree weather. Yeah, I was watching the sales, and not the weather obviously. A few things have helped a LOT---I was nervous the first day---the leaves burned like you said and serious drooping going on. I did as Donna suggested and set up a temporary 'tent' for the few weeks---just till the weather lets up and they become a bit more established. It has helped a LOT. Don't forget to mulch too---that first day, I hadn't gotten around to it, thought I watered really well, and they got scorched. After mulching, I watered the same amount the next day and no damaged leaves at all.

Expect them to droop during the hours they are getting sun (all of mine do that when it's really hot) but as long as they perk up in the evening you know you're alright.

I have a Sister Theresa I just bought in a pot---waiting to transplant a paniculata tree in the fall and put her in it's place. This morning she was still drooping.... I got worried and watered her again, and within 1/2 hr. she perked right back up. Another Sister Theresa I had in the ground I transplanted last week (she's about 5 years old) and she's doing fine.... Just watch them and baby them a bit until the weather cools down some. A neighbor down the street planted 6 red hydrangeas and they look like they are gonners for sure--- so be careful, it is hot! The babies are much less tolerant :)
