Can I grow a climbing hydrangea here?

Will it get enough light to grow up a chimney that faces north? I've read conflicting information regarding shade tolerance. The spot does get some sun in the later afternoon and early evening. Maybe not as much in the winter. Is it too shady? Any kind that can take more shade? What if I start w/a large plant? The local nursery has plants in 15 gallon containers. Pricey but worth it of it will grow. Thanks.

North facing chimney sounds fine :-) This climber can take quite a lot of shade and still flower well -- my old one grew into and up a very large Douglas fir and bloomed like crazy with only a couple of hours of direct morning sun. Winter sun is not an issue, as the plant is dormant at that time.

IME, a larger plant is good way to go with this choice. The more mature the plant, the faster it seems to establish, put on growth and bloom (unlike most other plants, where smaller to start is better). I say go for it!!
