I don't know about the wind, but I have 4 Annabelle, 2 Incrediball, and 1 Invincible Spirit here in zone 5a/b (Toronto area) and I can't kill them. I just make sure to mulch well with lots of leaves in the fall, and so far so good. I also have a bunch of pink mopheads, and they're fine too.

You should check out the paniculata hydrangeas--like Pinky Winky or Vanilla Strawberry. They bloom later in the summer and, if I remember correctly, are quite cold hardy. And they like sun--which many other hydrangeas do not.

Good advice so far- pretty much any Hyd. arborsecens (Annabelle type) or Hyd. paniculata (peegee type) are the best bet for hardiness. I would think more peegees, like your pink diamonds, would be a great choice for resisting wind, since they have stouter stems than arborescens. However, many peegees are quite similar in appearance.

I think Limelight is a great choice, even though I don't personally like the look much myself- the green would add some variety. You could look at Hyd. paniculata 'The Swan' also; which has notably larger flower petals, but I haven't ever been able to get it to stay alive very well. My personal favorites are H.p. 'Phantom' and H.p. 'White Moth', if you can find them. Good luck, I hope you find some great new additions!

I have a windy lot and have had success with Limelight, Tardiva, Little Lamb, The Swan (takes a few years to look decent), Quickfire, Annabelle and Incrediball. This year my Endless Summer haven't bloomed very much due to a late frost I believe.

Thanks everyone ... didn't know about sun vs shade ... though now that it was mentioned, both of my current hydrangeas are in some shade ... one of the areas I had in mind would be full sun, the other part shade ...

I am printing this out so I can look at all these varieties to see what they look like and hope to get a couple this weekend.
