Location for Little Limelights

I'm a first timer with Hydrangeas, so I know nothing about them, other than they seem to thrive in my neighborhood in similar locations.
I am redoing a front yard bed and was planning on putting 3 or 4 little limelight hydrangeas in this bed - it is south facing, with pretty much 8 hours of full sun a day. The hosta I pulled out burned terribly due to the sun and heat last year, and are now in a shade garden.
I was planning on planting the LLs at least 3 ft from the foundation, in front of a low, but extremely long window that reflects a great deal of sun. The soil is going to be amended, since it is used up from the 40 year old shrubs the previous owner removed. What is left is heavy with clay.

Two questions: How should I amend the soil to make it hospitable for hydrangeas? And is this a location that little limelight will grow or is it too sunny?
