recommendations for zone 5 (b)?

I am new to this, considering planting hydrangeas at the front of my house to balance out some very tall roses opposite. I would like colored blooms but I see only the white flowered ones around my neighborhood. Is this because, as I have read elsewhere, the colored flowering plants are more difficult in my zone? CAn anyone recommend something for me?

I'm in zone 5. I have Nikko blue, glowing ember and endless summer. Endless Summer is one those that you either love or hate, for me right now its just stupid evergreen. The ones that I've seen done well is Nikko blue, which I love to mess with the color, Pee Gee and oakleaf. While these are hardy to zone 4, I think, winter protection is key.
