My Pinky Winky is covered with blooms AND BUGS this summer. All types: ants, small bees, large bees, wasps, little gnat like things. Is this a common occurrence?

We thought about lining our patio with them, because I really like the plant. However this year it's unbelievable. Is it due to the drought? We do keep all our planting beds watered and I do have a hummingbird garden on the other side of the house with all sorts of mixed perennials, so I don't think it's because it's the only blooming plant.
