must move hydrangeas but can't replant for a few weeks

My father is having a large porch rebuilt. He has nine hydrangea bushes about 4 years old. Beautiful. We must move them, we want to replant them around the porch but it may take several weeks for the construction to be finished. What can we do in the mean time? We intend to set them in pots to keep them safe. Should we cut off the flowers or leave them on? Any suggestions on replanting them as soon as possible and protecting them from hazzards of construction? Any advice would be appreciated. He is 79 and fallen in love with hydrangeas. He will be heartbroken to lose them. We need to move them as soon as possible. Thank you
