Pink + Green = Brown; Not a Fan o' Bella Anna

I love hydrangeas, especially the paniculatas and arborescens. So when I saw the promo pictures of Bella Anna last year, I put it on my list to watch for.

By the time I stumbled across one, I'd already seen some non-promo pictures that made me realize it might not be all I'd hoped. I still decided to buy one just to see for myself, and because I had an out-of-the-way place where it didn't need to be a star.

The main problem I have with it is that the flowers keep a greenish background, so the blooms spend a lot of time looking muddy. They were never "wow," although it's a first-year plant, so that may change. If anyone is hoping for a macrophylla-type pink, I definitely wouldn't recommend Bella Anna.

I have this in quite a bit of shade FWIW. Given its dark foliage and dull blooms, that's probably not an ideal location.

How's Bella Anna working for you?
