You could have some problems with the cement foundation leeching the nearby soil and making it alkaline but you can address that by amending the soil now and then. My only concern is that this is a large paniculata. It can get up to 7' high but about 4-5' wide only. If you have windows by the planting site, make sure that it will obstruct the view much. Of course, being in Zone 4 suggests that your growing season is not long and it may not grow that big. Sandy soil requires about 50% more soil and "regular" soil and more amendments. Compost is a very good thing to add; so is composted manure.

Thanks! I was thinking of putting it on the side of the garage, so now windows. But that would be the east/southeast facing side. It would get morning sun.

I have it in sun till 1-2pm and its doing well. It is in front of bay windows and is about 5-6 feet tall in its second year which is perfect for me . I did only light pruning in the fall.
