Need a diagnosis for my BB hydrangea!

Hi everyone! I planted a Blushing Bride hydrangea in a pot this past May. It has looked beautiful all summer and even started blooming in July. A couple weeks ago, I noticed it turning brown very quickly. Upon inspection, I realized it was infested with aphids. I immediately sprayed the plant with insecticidal soap, and it worked, they all died. However, it took a toll of my hydrangea and the leaves are still brown and very dead-looking. I recently noticed that there is a lot of new growth sprouting near the base of the plant. My question is - what should I do now? Do I need to cut off the brown leaves at the top of the plant? This is my first hydrangea, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
