What kind of hyrangea do I have and advice please?

First of all I'd just like to let everyone know I'm new at this plant thing.
I fell for the hydrangeas because I had some when I was just a kid and thought the bouquets looked really cute. Any way shortly after purchasing my plant (mid-june), it started to dry up and was very afraid it would die. To my surprise after keeping the little potted one inside for a while it started to show some sprouts, right now (end of august) the leaves are starting to grow a little more.
So...
I have a few questions should I cut anything off or just let the plant be?
Should I do anything as far as fertalizing yet yay or nay?
I like the color but would not be too upset if it turned a little more blue, what should I do?
Extra Info: I live in a part of Mexico (Los Mochis, Sinaloa) which is pretty hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter.
My plant will remain potted for a couple of years.
The photo was taken the same day I bought it.
