I sometimes get flowers in the Fall when temperatures fall but these old wood shrubs which do that are fickle and unpredictable so do not count on always getting these late blooms. And yes, they tend to be smaller. In my case, it is probably due to genetics and the weather. In your case, it could be the same and-or caused by the wholesaler's attempts to force blooms at unusual times of the year.
