Assumed this was a hydrangea so I snapped a pic and thought I'd be able to pull it right up....now I'm wishing I had better leaf detail....height ranged from 3-5 feet. Clusters about the size of a grapefruit with some deep purple tinge in unopened buds...located on Oahu but likely not original.

Your help is so appreciated!

Hmm, the leaves and blooms do not look hydrangea-ish to me although the leaves were too close to be sure. Maybe another tropical plant?

Thank you :) Only other pic is close up also but I did take one of the grounds and cropped the shot to show the plant in the foreground - lower left leaves are large could not find it in the books on indigenous plants. ...

Congrats! Fragrans means it is fragrant. Have you checked the blooms for fragrance?
