Limelight Dying

StephanieZ

I live in Baton Rouge,Louisiana and planted some good size limelight hydrangeas last fall. The plants seemed very healthy, overwintered, and budded out, and had beautiful flowers this summer. Now slowy, by slowy, leaves are wilting on a stem, and then the entire stem dies. One shrub has completely died, and now the other has started presenting the same symptoms. Any ideas? The shrubs are planted in part-sun. They get morning mid-day sun, and are mulched with pine bark mulch. I did not plant in full sun, as full sun can be so harsh here in Louisiana in the summer. I have kept well watered, but have not over watered. I also applied a granulated slow release fertilizer around the plants. This is so disappointing because the plants were so beautiful. I just don't know what's wrong. Any ideas?
