Oakleaf hydrangea wilting where wisteria was removed

We went through Hurricane Sandy (5 feet of salty water from the Ocean meeting the Shrewsbury River) and had to rework our whole yard and lawn. We removed plants that were overgrown, fell over or died due to the excessive salt in the soil. We planted 12 Oakleaf Hydrangea along a fence on one side of the yard. Ten of them are thriving, one is doing just OK and another, right next to it wilted and died. We thought it was diseased, so we replaced it. Now the new hydrangea is wilted and dying, too. We are watering the plants and the only thing I can think of is a wisteria was planted in this area before. We did check to see that there are no roots or obstructions when we planted the 2nd hydrangea in this same area, BUT would planting in the same area as a wisteria have anthing to do with this bush not thriving? AND is there anything we can do or add to the soil to revive our bushes in this area???
