I recently purchased 3 climbing hydrangeas. They are about 5 inches tall, in quart sized containers. Should I plant now and winter protect? Or shall I baby in the cool garage and plant in the spring.
Thank you!

I would think that if they have been containers outside for several months that they might be ok. Since you just got them and there is no way to know how developed the root system is, I would baby them in the garage and plant them in Spring. They might be able to fare well as they are tough woody plants but I would just hate giving them a welcome to the garden just as a Z5 winter is approaching.
