Strawberry Cream and other Hydrangea

My mother in law has a macrophylla growing next to the house. It's been alive for a long time but blooms inconsistently. From what I read, it's probably because the area is too cold and the cold killed off some of the flower buds.

What she really want is a blue hydrangea, but none appear to be available for someone with alkaline soil. The next color would be pink. However, the two brands of pink arborescens does not appear to have good color.

I notice that there is a Paniculata call Strawberry Vanilla. I am not so familiar with Paniculata other than that they are really large, but this one said it's only 6-8 feet. How much sun do you think Strawberry Vanilla need to bloom? Giving that macrophylla works there, the Paniculata should grow there, too.
