This was a beautiful grouping of hydrangeas last year when we moved in, but really overgrown and full of dead stems. Following advice I read online, I pruned all the dead stuff out last fall, plus a little more. Down to buds. This spring, the entire mass was dead (even though the previous spring they weren't). I've since learned from folks here that it was due to our crazy-harsh winter.
No bother. Summer saw all of them grow fairly tall and full again, just no blooms this year. So my question is, should I just leave them alone now? They're looking gross already, but I'm thinking maybe that's normal and I just forget from last fall...
