pruning little lime (lyme)

Planted 8 three years ago and finally got some decent growth this summer. I know the rules about paniculata, but am looking for real experience from someone who has successfully pruned these guys. Four of the eight are very thick and three/four feet tall, the others are a bit behind. Cut everything to 18" or so, stagger the cuts, cut the smaller ones as well as the more advanced, etc.? Thanks.
