I've read that a benefit of hydro is that root space is minimized so you can grow more per square foot. Wondering if I could grow lettuce heads in 3" pots? I'm working with two 2x2 flood tables so clearly I'm trying to fit as much as I can in each one of these tables. If I could get away with smaller pots to hold my veggies that'd be great. Any experienced advice on this? Thanks!

All of our lettuce is grown in 2 in net pots, but we have 3 rail spacing a, 3 inch, 6 inch and 8 inch, mature Bavarian lettuce gets pretty crowded on 8 inch spacing.
