After harvesting

How soon after you harvest should I pull out the plants? After I have harvested the large brocolli crowns I allied the little crowns to grow and bloom. Some of the brocolli plants I pulled out tonight since there wasn't any other crowns. My lettuce however is cowering now and I hope to get their seeds. Now my next question. Should I try and save all the lettuce seeds? Another reason I need to pull out the plAnts is I have a feeling I am getting some over flow as I have been loosing water.

Seeds are cheap, unless you have those $1 per seed tomato fancy things that some places sell... I don't and wouldn't bother tryin to save seeds. My experience with lettuce is that once it goes to seed - it tastes bad...

If I cut the plant for a full harvest, I'll go ahead and pull the plant or at least cut most of the roots away (if its tangled with others). No reason I can see to leave them in the system.
