I'm looking for a small float valve that can fit in a 5-gallon bucket, where the actual float can be adjusted to the side to avoid the netpot in the center. Do any places sell really small valves like that?

The alternative would be to use a {{gwi:998850}}, but it's much more expensive, since no places in the US sell it.

My setup will have a reservoir on a balcony, with the actual pot halfway up the stairs to the second story, and air and water tubes running down to the pot. The float valve would allow the pot to basically be self-watering (and I don't anticipate that the root ball will interfere with the valve).
