Ready made vertical garden

What a surprise I have been following the many recent posts about vertical gardens , and I must say there have been some great designs and pure genius in construction.
While going through my pile of garden bits and pieces I unearthed a very old hanging vertical garden that I forgot all about. I am now wondering whether I should leave it as a system that is fed from the top and collected in a cup on the bottom, or should I plumb it up to run with a pump.
I thought that a vermiculite with Perlite may be the way to go.
I would welcome any feed back on this small but great little hanging planter. At the moment it is hanging under our deck, but I could hook it up to my drip system which is also under the deck giving great results with my Thai tomatos.
It is a small system that can house 12 plants , but sure came as a surprise, while I was thinking of buying all the bits and pieces to build one of my own.
