I can not find any great pictures / plans of simple drain to waste systems built with vinyl fence post material. I am trying to grow strawberries.

Generally, drain to waste systems are not environmentally friendly for any sizable system.
Why don't you want to recycle your water and nutrients? It could be a simple flood and drain system with two buckets. one catches the water. then you switch it with bucket two, and pour the original fluid back into the system.

That makes sense using a simple collection bucket. This setup is going to be outside so I was worried about rain water flooding my system.

There is a system that used 4 inch irrigation pipe ( the flexible black stuff that costs about $5 bucks for a 10 foot length )but would work just fine with the plastic fence posts. Plants actualy grow in 32 oz styrofoam cups that sit in holes cut into the pipes. The pipes sit at about a 10 degree angle that produces a good flow. The cups were filled with perolite and others were using expanded clay. There are pictures at the link below showing construction details. The system worked very well. look for the PIPE SYSTEM link on the home page. chuck

Here is a link that might be useful: pipe system
