Beginning Hydro, pot sizes

Hi!

I am new to hydroponics and I have half-built an ebb and flow system. I'd like to know, are 3 gallon pots, more tall than wide, big enough for growing small, pot friendly, determinate tomatoes, a small pot friendly variety of eggplant, or hot peppers? I have read that tomatoes need at least 5 gallon pots for growing in soil, but considering the constant flood cycles in an ebb and flow system, and the smaller root mass this is supposed to develop, would a 3 gallon pot be enough?

Thank you!
