I'd like to try and grow sweet corn hydroponically. Has anyone been successful doing this, and if so what method did you use, any pictures would help

RE: Hydroponic Corn

About 10 years ago, I had a soda bottle setup with about 50 outlets and tried sweet corn. I had wild success with the corn growing to a height of 5 ft. and producing 2 ears/stalk.
My setup was setting on a plastic pipe frame. I did'nt take into account the weight of all those stalks and corn and the whole thing came tumbling down. First it started collapsing in the middle, then, the system stopped draining(flood&drain).
I'd say, if you support the base of the system properly, go for it. The corn was ruined, but the ears were well formed and though immature well filled.

I tried corn. My problem is that I didn't have enough. I only had 3 stalks because I had some seeds from the Chicago museum of science and industry that we bought as souvenirs. You need to plant a bunch of stalks so you have pollen at the time the ears are ready for it. In my case I didn't so no corn got pollinated.

Did you know that there is a tassel for every kernel of corn and if that tassel isn't pollinated you won't get a kernel in that spot on the corn? I never knew that until I researched corn.

At any rate. look for some low growing corn if you are doing it inside. If you are doing it outside, pick your favorite.

Oh, and to answer your question as to what method I used. I had a 5 gallon bucket with hydroton and wick. I would manually add nutrients as needed.
