Water

Do I need to use filtered (RO System) water in my hydro setup? I have an aerogarden that works great but I have to buy distilled water for that. Regular tap water gave very poor results. I will be growing lettuce and other crops in a greenhouse over the winter months but will be trying out some this summer to test it all.

Can I use regular rubbermaid tubs to hold the water..?? or do they have to be food grade plastics..? Thanks Tom

RO water is just water, no minerals. Most tap water contains calcium, which is an important nutrient for plants. You can use RO or distilled, but you'll have to make up all the missing elements -- all the major AND trace elements.
I use tap water. A little note here: due to calcium content, my tap water has an EC of 1.2 right out of the hose.
Pretty much everybody uses regular RubberMaid tubs to hold nutrients. Wal Mart nearly gives them away!
