To save you some trouble...you can just pick out those seeds...throw them out if you will never plant them. And then you can plant what you want into each pod. If you are going for vegetables,plant them VERY shallow,and if they are small seeds, like lettuce,you can attach them to the sponge with a dot of 'touch' of plain white glue, to make them stick to the sponge and not fall way down. That is how I did it with my 'Master Garden Kit' I bought. Thats how it said to do it. The same for flowers. I got zinnias to sprout,but I couldn't get marigolds to sprout for some reason. I know they will...they come in most of the flower kits. So I know they will grow. But I couldnt get them to sprout.

Whatever you plant, plant them 1/2 the depth of whatever it says on the package. I ended up putting them as close to the top of the split in the sponge as possible. This time I am going for pansies, Burpee Royalty petunias,and Burpee Petite Mixed Snapdragons. All VERY tiny seeds, so I got the glue out and just got the sponges slighty sticky, so the seeds would hold onto the top of the sponge. My Petunia seed kits grew so great!! both times,but I got so many pink,and few other colors, I want to try and get more colors...purples,white,deep pink,blues. So at least I know these will grow. The other 2 are a shot in the dark. But I think the snapdragons will grow. The pansies are a 50/50 shot.

I got a merigold to grow and flower and I got larkspurs and snaps to grow too, I have also rooted mint, coleus and I'm trying rosemary right now.
