Hi. I am conducting a chemistry experiment at school on a tommy toe tomato plant. In summary, we tested the effect on the auxin indole-3-acetic-acid on plant growth as it is meant to promote cellular division, expansion etc. We also created a nutrient solution. However, we found that instead of increasing the growth of the plant, instead it promoted the growth of yeast precipitates within the solution. This affected the plant growth negatively. My question therefore is, in layman's terms, why is the indole-3-acetic-acid producing yeast?
