Snow Peas/Strawberry - Pot size

Posted by nlange21 32703 (My Page) on

Hi, I was wondering if full size pea plants can be grown in 3.5" pots, or must they be in slightly larger 4.5"+ pots?

And the same question goes to strawberries. What's the "normal" size pots that can be used for full-size strawberries?

TIA,

-Nick

Interesting question!
I grow strawberries in 2½" netpots which - I confess - is a bit tight.
Lets hear what others have to say.

How much space is required between plants? I've read that they should be spaced out about 8" from one another, but that was for soil growing, so in Hydroponics, could I space them closer than that?

TIA,

-Nick

I've got strawberries at 8" spacing at the moment, but even that looks a bit crowded on mature plants (some of the leaves are 3" - 4" across!).
I think 10" is probably best.

In fields where I've picked strawberries, I believe the plants are at about 18". I'm planning on 12" when I start some.

I never use pots larger than 2" netpots. But then, I don't rely on the media to hold any moisture. It's basically just there to hold the plant until it gets established.

I'm sure 12" is ample for spacing. 2" netpots ?????. . . not sure. Strawberries can grow a big rootsystem. Be careful.

Thanks for your help. :)

I grew full size tomato plants in 2" net pots without any problems. once they grow past the pots, there's nothing holding them back.
