stream for hydroponics water supply

Was thinking setting up a small hydroponic system to grow some tomatoes, lettice, and the like and was wondering if chlorine treated stream water would work for the water supply. The stream runs 24/7/365 it has a PH OF 6.7 and the TDS reads about 27 which is 5 times lower than my well (150 PPM/7.5PH). If the water were treated with chlorine and let sit in open containers for a couple of days then filtered for debris - would it be a good mixing base for nutrient solutions or will there be other problems. Am assuming all the micro organisms would be cleaned out and water purified for use treating it. Anybody have any idea or is my theory wrong and why.
