good books for hydroponics

Anyone knows some good books about hydroponics/aeroponics with up to date information ?

Currently I am researching the possibility of growing my vegetables using hydroponics. For what I've read so far, it seems that this activity is more technology oriented, which would suit me quite well since I have technical background ( but zero gardening experience).

I'm looking to design a small hydroponic greenhouse that could provide vegetables for two persons.

So far the NFT technique seems to be the most cost effective and easy to run hydroponic type, however I want to do a more comprehensive research before committing any resources.

"Gardening Indoors: The Indoor Gardener's Bible" by George Van Patten is supposedly a good one. I've had it recommended but I haven't actually read it.

I don't recommend "How To Hydroponics". Nearly everything is right on the web that is in the book and it is awfully vague in some areas. Surely there are better buys.

Hi Joe,

thanks for the good tip. It seems that most of the contents of the Van Patten book can be viewed online at books.google.com.

I've read some pages from the book and liked it, so probably I will buy it next month.

I can also recommend How-To Hydroponics, it is very complete, has building plans and even basic recipes for making nutrients.

The best book will greatly depend on what type of info you are looking for. As for the systems, NFT will be great for all your leafy vegies...lettuce, herbs, even edible flowers...however if you want some vine crops, which in a greenhouse I would strongly suggest, you should look at some kind of bucket system that you can set up on a drip system, there are some nice bato bucket systems out there or you can easily build your own out of buckets.
