Starting lettuce in an aerospring?

I have my aerospring almost ready. I plan on starting lettuce in the foam quick starts in a net cup with media in the cup supporting the foam quick start.
Any reason to not use the aerospring it's self to start these? |

Lettuce is easy to grow in both the lettuce raft and aerospring. What kind of lettce? I grew some monster heads of romaine this winter in the basement and in 50 days or so they were huge. You can see some pictures on my website. Next time I'd do a rotating crop of baby romaine, but I use my aerosprings for tomatoes and larger stuff. I have lettuce rafts for everything smaller. If you haven't cut your holes in the top yet (if you made your own) you can use small netcups if you plan on harvesting smaller. I used 4" but am thinking about buying another rubbermaid tub the same size and drilling LOTS of holes for 2" netcups. That way I can grow many smaller heads of lettuce. BUT - I did see one guy on here that says he's convinced you can do everything in 2" netcups. Depending on the veggie/fruit, that could get crowded. -Eric Technology Garden

Romaine, Butter Crunch, Spinach (for salid) and swiss chard. All salid greens. i already 3" cups. so I used them, going to swap some 3" with a friend who is ordering 2". When I get those, I will start a second unit.

You can also hook 2 together with bulkhead fittings, if you use anything less you'll have leaks. If you have a single reservoir that's bigger, you'll have less swings in PH and easier to mix nutrients. I think you'll be fine with 2" and 3" netcups for what you are doing -Eric Technology Garden

Yeah, what you're doing sounds like it should work famously for you. You can definitely raise a lettuce plant from seedling in a DWC or Aerospring. I started some Romaine this time around in my salad DWC and holy crap those plants get huge, fast. I may have to abort a plant or two just to give everything room.
