Net pot size for Tomato Hydrogarden

Hi, I'm pretty new to hydroponic gardening.

I have a question for the experienced out there about which size net pots I should use for a 11" x 11" ebb and flow tray.

I was hoping I could use (4)3" or 3.75" net pots, but I am not sure whether that crowding is good for the plants. I know that the roots can get tangled and make removing a dead or harvested plant difficult, but I dont really mind that. I also have seen pictures of hydrogardens that look like full flower boxes with flowers all crowded into each other, so Im a lil confused.

And also I want to know if a tomato plant needs a bigger diametered net pot to adequately grow in. or does it matter?

Edit: Sorry if my post seems like a general question, but I would like to know which size I should use for my tray on an ebb and flow system with hydroton clay pebbles as my medium

The 3.75'' would work for tomatoes because I currently use them for my DWC system. What kind of plants are you planning on growing other than tomatoes? To be honest, given the area of 11'' X 11''you are talking about I would bet you could fit one, maybe 2 toms at most in there... now I could be wrong... do you have any pics? that might help. Tomatoe roots get very large and will take up TONS of space in your setup. From what I understand you are using an Ebb and Flow "tray" method where the tray floods and drains. How deep is the tray? Do you have any pictures?

net pot size has no bearing on controlling (or restricting) tomato plant growth. As Ethno pointed out the total volume of the table will be the deciding factor. A tomato plant will quickly grow out of the net pot and consume the amount of space it needs with roots.
How deep is the tray? if it is only 4" deep, I would not recommend putting in more than one plant.
Heck don't even use a net pot, just cut a hole in the top of the tray and stick the plant through that into the table medium.
