The cloning solution work well....first i made the cuttings...poured some cloning gel in a little container....dipped the cuttings in the gel...and placed them in 1 1/2in. rockwool cubes....then i placed them in the deep water culture system and boom.
Really nice job, but I would guess you'll run into a hitch later on. Your peppers will need almost no nitrogen at all (if you give them too much you won't get any peppers) but the basil will need nitrogen to be healthy.
You'll probably end up needing to separate them so you can give them each the diet they require.
I'll tell you one thing though, basil practically explodes in DWC. I chopped mine back several times before I had to just put it outside in soil. It grew way too fast in hydroponics.
I'm doing DWC basil right now too, and it goes crazy. I've had the nutrient strength at most points between 500ppm and 1500ppm with the plants showing no signs of stress. The pH has also tested at varying points between 5.1 and 7.4, again with no visible signs of stress. I use 2 part vegetative growth nutrient, add humic and fulvic acids every month. I don't use CalMag, and don't find that I need it. Aside, I read somewhere that some cloning chemicals shouldn't be used on any food plants.
That basil is looking great. I have grown about 3 dozen batches and many have ended up transplants to outdoor gardens and pots in the spring. Amazing smells and ease of harvest.
