Determined to grow kale in Alabama!

Ok I live in southern Alabama but I want kale (and swiss chard too) and I won't take no for an answer. I need to know what is the maximum temperature before kale will begin to taste bad or die.

Here's the situation. I'll be growing the kale indoors via a hydroponic vertical garden. We are planning on getting a programmable AC unit which will keep the house at 80 degrees F during the day while we are at work and then 68 degrees F while we are home. Will the kale die? Will it taste bad?

If 80 degrees F is not acceptable for kale, is there some type of temperature-controlled, enclosed garden "box" I can buy to grow my kale in? If so, how much am I looking at spending there? Can I build it myself?

Also, what about swiss chard? Can it to ok at 80 degrees F?

Thanks to anyone who knows!
