Water Filtration Test/Experiment.

My tap water is hard it is

PPM/TDS = 147

EC = 297

I ran a mug of water through a Britta water filter water jug style and found.

FIRST PASS

PPM/TDS = 75

EC = 150

Both readings cut in half...

I said to my self -- self, what about another pass through the filter - see what happens.

SECOND PASS

PPM/TDS = 56

EC = 112

THIRD PASS

PPM/TDS =46

EC = 93

So the readings where cut by one third - not bad for a 5 dollar filter.

It may only be a $5 filter, but the real question in order to determine cost effectiveness is how many gallons can you run through it before the filter is spent?

Neat experiment. I am actually surprised at such a decrease in EC and TDS.

But of course a brita pitcher or even spout filter will not be efficient enough for hydroponics. If you really wanna think badass filtration, you should look into buying a reverse osmosis system - now those are cool and run about $150:

yeah, but reverse osmosis is terrible for wasting water. you waste 2 times more than you get. Unless you absolutely need it, you shouldn't use it.
