This isn't a tomato growing method. To my knowledge there's pretty much just one thing that's grown using this method and it's not the sort of thing you'd be growing for a senior project.

Folks around here aren't going to help you grow "that", but if you really want to grow tomatoes I can definitely lend a hand there. Check the link below, that's a good place to start learning.

What are you referring to with the "poor man's hydroponic method"?

The trick with tomatoes, or any other high-energy plant, is to make sure you feed them enough (but not too much, obviously) and lots and lots of light. They need the light for energy, and tomatoes use a lot of energy to make their fruit.
