The practice with tomatoes is to pinch off the lower axillary buds when it starts to flower. Does anyone know if this applies to eggplants as well?

Hi edurink, I don't know about eggplant being pinched off, but I was going to ask the same question. I was real late in getting my greenhouse into operation, and being september already, I just finished pruning my eggplant the same as my tomatoes. I have had real good results with the GH, and am running out of time for the produce to mature, but in just 3 days I have seen a real difference in my tom's. Good luch with yours!! gmac33

Here's an interesting abstract from the internet. Basically it concludes pruning decreases yield.

Fellows, Thanks for the information. It may be conflicting, nonetheless, it's useful info and encourages me to search more. Quite a coincidence, one of the references in the website hank_mili suggested mentions U.P. Los Banos. I graduated from there. Dr. J. Deanon was my teacher. The name Dr. Opena sounds very familiar also. I have two sets of eggplants of different ages. The older ones, I did some pruning already following the practice with tomatoes. The younger ones, they are still very small, I won't prune and see how they will perform. I'd like to invite you guys to visit my website.
