lava rocks

Hi all,I was wondering if anyone else uses crushed lava rocks' as their growing medium in a dwc? I have been using them for my bhut peppers and so far I have been having no probs. I took a 5gal bucket, drilled a bunch of 1/4 inch holes in the bottom then added the lava and proceeded to rinse with the garden hose, then cut a hole in the lid of a new 5gal bucket that the net pot sits in snug. I then added my "bhut" (very carefully) to the lava then mixed up my nutes and let the (water/nutes mix) come to an inch from the bottom of the net pot and plan on lowering the water/nute mix after the roots begin to show out of the net pot. My question is..will this set up be ok? Do the lava rocks leach any bad/harmful chemicals or do they effect the ph in any way? So far the plants look fine and are showing signs of new growth:) any advice/critics would be welcomed and greatly appreciated..cheers
