Hi! I'm kinda new in the hydroponics. I am planning a passive system for an orchid. Can you please tell me what is a good nutrient solution for an orchid?

Hi tin_hydronewbie,

Doesn't look like anyone knows about orchids, but maybe I can help a bit.
Can you tell me what you grow these orchids in, and what do you feed them?

Hi,

I have about 40 orchids mostly cattleyas in a passive hydroponic system. I get my supplies from a place in Pennsylvania called First Rays. They can explain the system to you in great detail on their website.

I have had moderate luck. Some of the plants are in bud or in bloom right now. I find that the smaller to medium sized plants do the best. Some orchids take to the system better than others. I have had best luck with catts and zygos. I hang them on a wire rack so that about 30 "pots" are off the bench. They get a lot of light because they are near the roof of the greenhouse. I supplement the sunlight with 100 watt lights in reflectors that are on a timer to come on in the late afternoon. I have less problem with scale and mealies in this system. Hope this helps.
