Regarding pecan shells and composting in general, the ratio of woody (brown) stuff can be around 1/4 and work well. Pecan shells can be used in moderation in that category and under appropriate conditions ought to compost in a reasonable time frame. But you want to shoot for a majority of things rich in nitrogen and micronutrients (green stuff) if you want to get an elevated nutrient content that might be suited for your hydroponic systems.

As for the molasses, the more sugars you put the more bacteria you get, which is usually a beneficial thing; the more woody stuff, the more fungi and their byproducts. probably the sugary way is better but it depends on what you are growing. So the first thing to decide is what sort of nutrient you want to get and then work backwards to figure out the best ingredients.

Our compost pile is just whatever, but the quality of the infusion for hydroponics was very poor, so I easily gave up instead of going for it since I am very satisfied with my huge sack of hydroponic fertilizer and consider it perfectly natural and no different than if I grew plants on the side of a pristine mountain or ancient sea which was evaporated and left the salty essence of the eons for my plants to savior ;-)

I'm sure adding worms will be helpful and anything else that poops nitrogenous things .... provided they get a good source to start with like legumes, since none of the nutrients are generated, just recycled with the efficiency of your composting method.
