I've recently been learning about hydroponics. I've been thinking about an ebb&flow system that won't need a pump.

Using hydrostatic pressure of the liquid, a valve an a bell siphon.

I'm wondering it this is possible at all...

In attachment a very simple concept drawing.

When opening the valve, the other chamber will fill up, when almost full the bell siphon will start flowing the liquid back. By then closing the valve and letting the bell siphon does his work. the water should be going back en the plant chamber should be again empty.

Or am I missing some things?
