 o
Clematis

I would like to plant clematis against the house or close on the side where the snow slides and piles up. Would this work or would the snow build up and melt kill off the root ball? We have 16 inch eaves. On a good snow year we have seen the snow 6 foot or more plied against the house. We just moved from Cambridge to Midvale but I do not think the snow is that much different from one town to the other.

Thanks in advance for any information. Chris

My mom lives in Fruitland, I helped her plant and secure a trellis (that was attached so that it was perpendicular to the eve of the house) for a clematis. This was 4 or 5 years ago. It has thrived ever since. Some years she prunes it back low, other times she has not (when they have been away during the winter into springtime, she returns and it's already growing).
