When to plant garlic in North Idaho?

I'll be growing garlic for the first time this year. I have the bulbs (freshly dug, organically grown, nicely cured) but don't know when to put them in the ground. Should I wait until the ground cools a bit in September or put them in during the moderate heat wave (80's, maybe 90's) we're having?

Thanks!

Jeanne

Recommendations I've heard are Mid-Sept to late Oct.
The important thing is that they be in the ground long enough to establish roots before the ground freezes.

Here's a great place to get info on garlic.

Here is a link that might be useful: Garlic Smiths

I try to have mine in the ground by Oct. 12th.

Thanks, both of you! I think I'll put the garlic in next week. Frost will be here any time now, but the ground won't freeze for quite some time.
