Impatiens balsamina flowers with white spots

I grew these plants this summer, and it was a treat to see all the spots on the flowers. I wonder how they come about, these spots? The trait is passed along to progeny and it seems to be stable after 2 generations.

Yes they are lovely but I dont really know what causes the white spots. It is just a genectic mutation. I think the seed line started out with double flowers but they seem to revert to mostly single but still keep the spots. These are some of the tallest growing ones as well.
