Planting impatiens in my flower bed

Hi,

I have a small flower bed in the partial shade that I would like to put some impatiens in and my question is, can I just sprinkle the seeds in the prepared bed at a certain time and let them grow? I want something that is easy and simple with minimal effort as I have a lot of ground to cover this year(literally!!) not to mention my vegetables so I am going to be busy. What is the best way to do these? Also if I can just throw them in what would the best time be to do it? Can I do it now or should I wait until after the last expected frost date?

Wait until after last expected frost date. You can direct sow them if the soil is loose and has good organic matter included (hard, compact clay will kill the seeds). In your area, you should see flower in 8-10 weeks after germination.

I like to cut back the plants approximately 6 weeks after germination.
