New member questions

Hello Everyone, I am new to breeding impatiens, but have 25 years hybridizing experience with hibiscus, so know the mechanics of creating seedlings.

Have some self seeded impatiens at home, of which several seem to be different to what is on the market. Who do I show pics of these to, to see if they are new and worthwhile working on ? Am I able to post photos on this site ?

I'd like to learn about the process of physically crossing within the same species and in time, like to try with cross-compatible species.

Can anyone give advice or refer me on ?

Hello Irisgal, Thanks for the reply and I am learning more on each visit to this and other sites.
I have had some good info from Mr Impatiens as well.
You are obviously into Iris'and I will have a look into yours one day soon. I do like the Iris family and have several seedlings growing at home, not yet flowering. These were crosses I did randomly.

I am new to this webpage, and have an impatiens that needs help. I bought a gorgeous yellow impatiens from an organic nursery (Fusion Glow Exotic Impatiens)and it appears I am killing it. The leaves are wilting and black on the edges, and the blooms are falling off. I have it in Southern sun in a partially shady area. It has been cool and rainy here, and has been overcast. I thought it was getting enough rain water to sustain it, but it started looking bad & I watered it good yesterday. I really want this plant to live. Suggestions??

Sounds like it might be rotting. If the base of the stem is mushy or limp thats what it will be. Fusion is a little cold sensative. I had mine setting out but moved it back to the greenhouse when it started loosing leaves. I dont know what the black on the edges is. But it could be related to the cold. If you do cuttings you may be able to save it. They root just like all the others.

Many thanks. It has been a bit chilly at night here. The stem looks fine, so it might make it, but I will do some cuttings. Thanks.
