Mulch will hold moisture and protect the roots from heavy evaporation, mulch them, but dusty millers and impatiens don´t mix well together, the watering needs are very different, impatiens are heavy drinkers specially in hot places like TX while Dusty millers like it on the dry side, too much water and they rot, without regular watering impatiens in hot places go droopy and eventually die.

Thanks, Raul. I did not know that. As I said I am new to gardening. What would go good with the Dusty Miller in those beds? I can move the impatients. Appreciate your help.

I would leave the impatiens. morning sun but mostly shade is ideal for impatiens. Dusty millers should be moved to more sun. If you like, you can also try them both together. I have often used them and they did fine. If you mulch well the watering is not going to be too much for them.

Definately use mulch.
Keep the impatiens.
Consider moving the millers or try them where they are..

Right now they look gorgeous so I think I will just mulch them and leave them both where they are. Should I have a problem later on, I will move the Dusty Miller. Appreciate your reply.

Here in zone 5 I have always had Dusty miller and impatients together and they did fine. However, when I plant Dusty Miller in full sun it quite often returns the next year - but never when it is in the shade. Both seem to perform about the same mulched or not!

Noticed it has been a month since I first posted. Both Dusty Miller and Impatiens are doing fine....so far. Since I have the heat, deer , squirrels and snails to contend with I am surprised but very grateful that they are still looking good.
