Why don't my impatiens grow big & bushy?

I plant impatiens around the perimeter of 2 large bushes, in a semi-sunny location. The first year, they grew large and bushy, covered with flowers. The second and third years, they remain small with minimal flowers. They were watered frequently and fertilized with Miracle Gro.

In contrast to these pampered plants, my neighbors' impatiens are totally neglected while they vacation in the Catskills, yet always manage to look better than mine!

What am I doing wrong?

I think too much water and too much sun.

What kind are you growing?

I know accent impatiens can get quite leggy in part sun and I always pinch them back to keep them bushy.

Too much MG could be to blame as well.
